preliminary research paragraph

I am interested in writing a research paper in the field of genetics. Maybe in the area of how genetic defects arise and possibilites of why they arise unexpectedly. why some genetic defects arise are still not known to scientist and maybe digging a little deeper a reason for that can be concluded. the use of pedigrees would be a helpful tool.
